Triamcinolone

Brand Names: Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream

Drug Class: Topical corticosteroid, Glucocorticoid

Overview

Triamcinolone acetonide is a medium-potency topical corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and itching associated with various dermatological conditions. It works by suppressing inflammatory mediators and immune responses in the skin. This medication is available in cream formulations for direct application to affected areas.

Mechanism of Action

Triamcinolone acetonide is a synthetic glucocorticoid that binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, leading to inhibition of inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins, leukotrienes), suppression of cytokine production, and stabilization of lysosomal membranes. This reduces capillary permeability, edema, and cellular infiltration at the site of inflammation.
