Mechanism of Action

Blocks aldosterone receptors in the kidney.

Indications

  • Heart failure
  • ascites (liver disease)
  • resistant hypertension
  • acne (off-label).

Counseling Points

  • Risk of hyperkalemia. May cause gynecomastia in men. Prescription only.
