Overview
Salicylic acid 2% topical lotion is a keratolytic agent used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. It works by promoting desquamation of the stratum corneum and unclogging pores. This formulation is designed as an oil-free acne wash for facial application.
Mechanism of Action
Salicylic acid exerts its pharmacological effects through keratolytic action by promoting desquamation of the stratum corneum. It dissolves intercellular cement substance, reduces corneocyte cohesion, and facilitates shedding of epidermal cells, which helps unclog pores and reduce comedone formation in acne.
